The Meritor RT-46-160 is the standard-specification tandem rear drive axle for North American Class 8 long-haul trucks, rated to 46,000 lb (20,865 kg) gross axle weight rating (GAWR). Peterbilt, Kenworth, Mack, Freightliner, and Volvo all offer the Meritor RT-46-160 as a factory specification axle, making it the single most common drive axle in North American trucking. Its hypoid spiral bevel ring and pinion gear set is interchangeable across all five brands' chassis.
