The original Range Rover was the first true luxury 4×4 — it combined coil-spring independent front suspension (a first for a production 4×4) with permanent four-wheel drive, the 3.5L Rover V8, and enough comfort to drive to the opera. Its integrated body-chassis structure (rather than body-on-frame) was a revelation. The Ritz Hotel in Paris accepted it as the first vehicle ever displayed inside.
